POAD - Pavilion of the African Diaspora pavilion. london. 2021

The Pavilion of the African Diaspora (PoAD) was first erected at the London Design Biennale in 2021 and has since been relocated to California. It is a space for amplifying the voices and stories of people of African descent from around the world.

The pavilion was designed by Nigerian-American artist Ini Archibong and draws inspiration from the forms of conch and cowrie shells. DIFK designed the foundation and supporting structures. The structure serves both as a symbol and a multifunctional space for learning, gathering, and cultural events.

The pavilion marks the beginning of work by the Archibong Heritage Foundation, combining architecture, identity, and sustainable construction methods in one holistic design.
