Hekla housing. stockholm. sweden. 2017.

Hekla is a competition project for a timber high-rise in the Stockholm area. The building combines commercial use and housing. The structural concept is based on this programmatic distinction.

The building is inspired by a solid socket which ties it into the existing city. The ambition regarding comfort, health, sustainability, and durability is visible in the structural concept. The overall structural system of the building is made of cross-laminated timber (CLT) cores combined with reinforced concrete to ensure sufficient lateral stiffness. Beyond its structural capacities, timber is also used for its aesthetic quality. Timber is used in the façade, endowing its unique expression.
