+One conference center hotel office. gothenburg. sweden. 2018
The +One exhibition building was developed in collaboration with White Arkitekter, who are also responsible for several of the surrounding buildings. The project combines innovative material choices with a clear geometric structure to create a flexible and visually distinctive building.
The façades of the lower floors consist of a stone cladding that protects an underlying timber structure. This solution gives the building a robust and weather-resistant exterior that visually resembles a traditional stone building, while retaining the sustainable qualities of timber on the interior.
The building’s load-bearing system is characterized by triangulation, with columns and diagonal elements repeated throughout the structure. This provides the necessary stiffness and stability in the façade. An unintended irregularity in the façade pattern opened the door for a creative approach, in which the pattern was explored and evolved into formations resembling snow crystals and organic shapes. This art-by-accident effect gives the façade a unique expression and reinforces the dynamic character of the building.
